CRICKET NSW hopes to inspire its next generation of female players when the Sydney Sixers Girls-Only Colour Bash comes to the region during the school holidays.
The free event for girls aged 5 to 12 will be held at Carroll Community Ground on Wednesday 15 July.
The four-hour program combines beginner-friendly cricket games with water balloons, arts and crafts and a colourful finale designed to make the sport fun and accessible.
The statewide event has helped almost double the number of girls aged 5 to 12 playing cricket across NSW over the past four years.
Cricket NSW general manager for community experience Martin Gleeson said growing grassroots participation remained a priority.
“It gives girls the confidence to step onto the field, have fun with their friends and develop a lifelong love of the game,” he said.
“By blending backyard cricket rules with water balloons and color runs, we take away the pressure and replace it with pure excitement.”
Funded through the federal government’s Play Our Way grant, the program aims to remove financial barriers and encourage more girls to get active in a welcoming environment.
The event requires no previous cricket experience or equipment.
Sessions are led by professional coaches in a supportive girls-only environment where the focus is on participation rather than competition.
It features modified backyard-style cricket before finishing with a high-energy colour run, where participants wearing white T-shirts are showered in non-toxic coloured powder as they run around the field.
The colour bash is delivered across NSW by the Sydney Sixers and Thunder to help highlight the Twenty20 version of the game.
Registrations for the event can be made through the Gunnedah Junior Cricket Association Facebook page.
