INTERNATIONAL DAY OF FRIENDSHIP

Today (30 July) is International Day of Friendship, a day to remember the importance of connection, understanding and kindness in our world. Whether it is the hand of friendship across nations or religions, or spending time with people in your community, friendship can be radical in its simplicity – a recognition of each other as fellow human beings.

Today is also our library open day, so why not come down to the

library and share a cuppa, a slice of something nice and chat with other library visitors and staff. Find out what the library has to offer, whether you’re looking for electronic resources to access at home, activities to engage your young ones (or keep your brain ticking), space to work, study or play, or to get back into reading.

HELP ME HELP MYSELF

Texts that promote improvement of the “self” can be dated back to antiquity, with the 17th century sparking tomes advising on topics such as correct beard length, personal cleanliness and matters of etiquette.

Modern editions give advice on matters such as work-life balance, handling difficult personal relationships and creating positive behaviours. If you find yourself in need of a little guidance, a browse through our Self Help section will surely provide a stack of books to help you get back on track. Titles include The Light We Carry by Michelle Obama, The Let Them Theory by Mel Robbins, Atomic Habits by James Clear, How to Deal with Angry People by Dr Ryan Martin, and The Changing Man by Dr Cate Howell and Alex Barnard.
