Evening VIEW celebrates 36th birthday

MARIE HOBSON Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club members celebrated their 36th birthday at The Gunnedah Hotel last week, with Judy Sills and Adrienne Stubbs cutting the celebratory cake. The long serving members have contributed countless volunteer hours to the women’s friendship group since its earliest days. Formed in October 1990, Gunnedah Evening VIEW Club is part of the Australia-wide network of women’s friendship groups formed under the umbrella of the Smith Family children’s charity. Theft offences increase across North West, new data shows

The latest crime statistics, published by the NSW Bureau of Crime Statistics and Research (BOCSAR), have shown that thefts have continued to rise across parts of the North West. Gunnedah Shire experienced the largest increase, almost 46 per cent, in the 2025–26 financial year, with Narrabri Shire experiencing an increase of almost 25 per cent in the same period. Moree Plains, while experiencing a slight decrease, still experienced the largest volume of incidents among the three shires. Moree Plains recorded 909 incidents, Gunnedah 676 and Narrabri 382. Fifty Breeza men enlisted for service in Great War

Citizens of Breeza erected a memorial to those who died and those who served in the Great War. The large stone memorial, surmounted by a machine gun, was erected in 1924 and unveiled and dedicated by Canon May, of Gunnedah, after it had been built by contractor M. Hardy, of Narrabri, and transported to the site by rail. The memorial remained on the site for almost 90 years before it was relocated to higher ground on the southern side of the Kamilaroi Highway through the village. Spring school holiday fun withshire library

Gunnedah Shire Library has marked the spring school holidays with an array of fun activities. The library’s usual Singalong & Storytime/Book Buddies returned as part of the offering, as did Crafty Creations. Children enjoyed making paper squishies, spring dioaramas, yarn animals, cardboard catepillars, busy bees and woolly sheep. The program also included a visit to Curlewis Hall for a kaleidoscope of stories, rhymes and craft for children. The library fun was part of a broader school holiday offering provided by Gunnedah Shire Council. Gunnedah youth were invited to join the shire’s consultative council for an ideas workshop. The […]
