Soup and Damper Day for July garden club meeting

THE July meeting of the Gunnedah Garden Club was the annual Soup and Damper Day. The Lions Hall looked just like a restaurant with the red checkered tablecloths and Helen Murrell’s beautiful camellias as centrepieces. Coralie Howe is stepping down after many years as horticultural convenor at the Gunnedah Show and is looking for someone who would like to take over the role. Future cotton leaders turn ideas into action as 2026 cohort graduates

SOME local and familiar faces were among the largest cohort in the history of the Australian Future Cotton Leaders Program to graduate just before this year’s Australian Cotton Conference kicked off. Participants have been praised for delivering practical projects designed to strengthen communities, improve industry connections and support the future of Australian cotton. The 2026 program brought together 17 emerging leaders from across the cotton supply chain including growers, consultants, merchants, researchers and extension personnel hailing from Kununurra and Emerald to Narrabri, Walgett, Merah North and Sydney. Successful year of fundraising for Can Assist

KATE Knight was returned as president of Gunnedah Can Assist, which is part of a network of 3,000 volunteers across 55 branches committed to supporting people living with cancer in rural and regional NSW. Secretary Linda Lee was elected unopposed to her position, Kerry Towns is treasurer, with Lisa Ross elected vice-president, Leigh McPherson as assistant secretary and Mariann Nowland as assistant treasurer. Fun night of brain teasers for Evening VIEW

GUNNEDAH Evening VIEW Club members were challenged by trivia maestro Anne McMahon at a recent dinner meeting, when four teams of hopefuls lined up for a fun night of brain teasers. Subjects ranged from sweet and sour, to four seasons, home, flowers and time, with the cryptic movies puzzle really stirring the brain cells. The Ring-Ins top-scored on 92 but the Fab Four came from behind to snatch second place, while the tail-enders, The Young Ones, were rewarded with the traditional wooden spoons.
