Young people from across the region gathered at Gunnedah’s town hall last Thursday for the 2025 Youth Expo. The expo, which was delivered by Gunnedah Shire Council, assisted students and young people by taking the first step in understanding how to start a career – which could be a conversation. Intervalley pipeline plan causes concern

NSW government plans to bolster Tamworth’s water supply into the future should not come at the expense of surrounding communities, including Gunnedah shire, according to civic leaders. Gunnedah Shire Council mayor Colleen Fuller said one of the options being considered as part of the Tamworth Intervalley Pipelines and Off-River Storages Project was construction of a new pipeline and pump stations to transfer water from Keepit Dam to Calala Water Treatment Plan. “Water security is an essential part of all our communities and we recognise Tamworth’s need for a reliable and sustainable water supply as the region grows,” Cr Fuller said. Gunnedah 2025 Red Shield Appeal links with Steps for Hope Challenge

Gunnedah’s Salvation Army Red Shield Appeal is looking to boost its fundraising efforts this year after delivering assistance to about 15 per cent of the local population in recent months. The Red Shield’s digital doorknock is held each year in Gunnedah during May, raising funds for individuals and families in need within the local community. Gunnedah team at Elders Olympics

A team of six from Gunnedah took part in this year’s Elders Olympics, held at the Inverell netball courts from last Wednesday to Friday. The members of ‘Gunnedah Aboriginal Elders’ were among more than 300 participants from around NSW, as participants were required to be at least 50 years of age and identify as indigenous. All games were team-based and not judged by individual achievements, with the Gunnedah participants particularly enjoying quoits, egg-and-spoon races and shooting hoops while other activities included egg-and-baton relays, beanbag throwing and passing a football.
