Gunnedah Red Devils reps star with Central North

Five Gunnedah Red Devils first graders came desperately close to winning a title for Central North in last weekend’s NSW Country Championship at the Tamworth-based Scully Park. Two wins for Central North were followed by a last-gasp two-point defeat as Red Devils skipper Tim McDermott captained the team, which also featured Red Devils players Adrian Burl, Will Chaffey, Ben Hamparsum and Gabriel Mahu’inga. Gunnedah tennis players shine for North West

Gunnedah’s contingent achieved some impressive results while representing North West in round one of the regional state league tennis at Sawtell on May 10 and 11. Harry Tudgey and Lachlan Finnerty were in the U11 boys division, and Sophie Neilsen was in the U15 girls division while North West managers Dale Martin and Gabby O’Gorman also came from Gunnedah. Gunnedah swimmer breaks 45-year record

Gunnedah swimmers have set some remarkable records lately, with one swimmer breaking a 45-year record at a championship while another swimmer broke seven records at a carnival. Jimmy Fitzgerald broke one of the oldest swimming records on the club’s history books, dating back to 1980. Jimmy toppled Mark Doyle’s 8 years boys long course 50m butterfly record at the Catholic Primary Schools (Polding) Swimming Championships at Sydney Olympic Park last month. Gunnedah South tennis quartet reaches regional final

The Gunnedah South Public School tennis quartet comprising Lachlan Finnerty, Adalie Muddle, Phoebe Neilsen and Harry Tudgey will oppose Tamworth in a regional final sometime next month. Lachlan, Adalie, Phoebe and Harry progressed to this stage of the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (NSWPSSA) tennis knockout after dominating their semi-final fixtures against Warialda at Gunnedah on Monday last week. Gunnedah South won seven sets to one as there were singles, doubles and mixed doubles fixtures.
