Gunnedah South tennis prodigies impress at Bathurst

The Gunnedah South Public School quartet of Lachlan Finnerty, Adalie Muddle, Phoebe Neilsen and Harry Tudgey represented North West at the NSW Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) tennis championships in Bathurst from May 6 to 9. North West was in Pool A along with tough opponents from CIS, North Coast, Sydney East, Sydney West and Riverina, with North West later encountering South Coast and Sydney South West during the play-offs. Red Devils upstage reigning premiers

A late try to Gabriel Mahuinga helped the Gunnedah Red Devils grab a memorable 24-17 victory against the Narrabri Blue Boars in last Saturday’s Central North rugby union fixture at Dangar Park. The result made the rest of the competition take notice as the Red Devils not only recorded their first win of the season, but overcame a 10-point deficit to knock off last year’s premiers. Funds raised at ladies open golf day

Forty-eight golfers including 24 from Gunnedah took part in last Sunday’s ladies open day at the Gunnedah Golf Club. Visitors came from Boggabri, Narrabri, Quirindi, Tamworth, Longyard, Werris Creek and Coonabarabran as the event involved raising funds for CanAssist Gunnedah. As of Wednesday, the tally stood at $762. Winners of the 4BBB Stableford event were Gunnedah duo Mandy Gavin and Penny Crawford with 43 points on a countback from Werris Creek duo Jann Moore and Jenny Fisher. Tennis clinic a hit during school holidays

About 75 children flocked to the Gunnedah tennis courts recently as the Louis Tennis Academy staged another one of its school holiday clinics. This clinic was titled ‘French Open Holiday Coaching Clinic’, due to the upcoming French Open tennis grand slam. There was a mix of newcomers and regulars as participants ranged from 4 to 15 years of age, while Louis Tennis Academy owner Craig Louis was among 10 local-based coaches.
