Numbers slightly down but great golf at Boggabri’s annual open day

BOGGABRI Golf Club held its annual open day earlier this month. While the field was reduced to 44 players, it was a most enjoyable day. Locals were joined by players from Sydney, Gunnedah, Tamworth, Tallwood, Narrabri and Scone to enjoy a sunny winter’s day. The day has been sponsored by the Gallen family (Jacob and Anderson) for more than 50 years with co-sponsors including the RSL Club, Commercial Hotel, Friendly Grocer and Narrabri Pro Shop. Gunnedah under-9s claim win at Wauchope carnival

GUNNEDAH and District Soccer Association’s under-9s team returned home as victors following a grand final win at the Wauchope soccer gala day. The boys, who were again coached by Paul Hickman, claimed the title in extra time against Port Macquarie City. The Gunnedah Guns made the four-and-a-half-hour trek through the mountains in the hope of adding to their medal haul following a previous win at a Moree carnival in June. Association officials praised the boys for representing Gunnedah with determination, teamwork, sportsmanship and plenty of smiles along the way. Trophy wins for Michelle Johnston and Kerrie Ward

THE four rounds of the women’s club championships began last Tuesday. Daily winners are announced after play each day. There is a winner and a runner-up in each division. Division 1: Sally Toppin 75 on a countback from Helen Baker. Division 2: Kerrie Ward 69 and Kay Clarke 72. Division 3: Joan Bray 73 and Judy Lee 76 on a countback. Nearest-the-pin on the second was Jane McWhirter and on the seventh Anne Finnigan. Bulldogs one win from hosting Group 4 rugby league grand final

THE Gunnedah Bulldogs are just one win away from hosting the Group 4 rugby league grand final after building a formidable run of form heading into their major semi-final against Moree. First grade head into their clash at Moree full of confidence after stringing together seven straight wins, including a convincing 48–12 victory over the Boars when the teams last met in June. The game will be played at Boughton Oval, where the Boars defeated the Bulldogs in last year’s grand final.
