Lachlan Moore is looking forward to a well-earned gap year after making the 2021 HSC Distinguished Achievers list for Agriculture.
The former Gunnedah High School student navigated a flood emergency and COVID challenges to record one of the state’s leading rankings for the HSC subject.
As flood levels peaked around his Kelvin home late last year, Lachlan was facing a three-hour-plus journey to sit his exams in Gunnedah.
“I had never seen rivers as high in my life,” he said.
Instead, alternate arrangements were secured with Manilla Central School – much to the relief of young Lachlan.
“There were new people, new teachers, but I was happy to be there,” he said.
With an eventful HSC year now behind him, Lachlan is planning to bunker down in full-time work at Mitre 10 for the next 12 months.
Then he will look to enrol in a Bachelor of Secondary Education at the University of Newcastle.
All going to plan, a return to where it all started – Gunnedah High School – could be on cards.
“I’m hoping to end up back there so we’ll see,” he said.
