Former Gunnedah resident Joan Richards OAM will be one of the many retired nurses attending the reunion for pre-2000 hospital staff on the June long weekend being organised by retired nurse Joan Harwood (Perrett).

Formerly Joan Pryor, Mrs Richards completed her general training at Gunnedah Hospital in 1955.

Now living in Tamworth, she was awarded the Order of Australia Medal recognising her outstanding involvement to Rotary and Quota International and her efforts in developing indigenous community projects, particularly in the area of ‘kids at risk’.

Reunion organiser Joan Harwood and Mrs Richards  met with Gunnedah Hospital CEO Stephen Joyce who offered to do tours for returning staff which Joan says is generating a lot of  interest.

The reunion on June 11 will include all staff who worked at the hospital – nursing, office, domestic and outdoor staff.

A call has gone out for all former staff once employed at the medical facility to spread the word and come along for the reunion dinner at Gunnedah Services & Bowling Club auditorium. The gathering will kick off from 5pm with the opportunity  to meet and renew friendships.

Organisers are keen to contact as many staff as possible with names and payment to be with Joan Harwood a week before the function.
