The Gunnedah Times has an exciting, full-time opportunity for a sports-minded person, who is a keen writer, to join its newsroom in the position of sports journalist.
The ideal candidate for the position should have a broad knowledge of sports, be familiar with sporting terms and expressions, and have a real passion for sports writing.
They will also demonstrate an ability to write stories outside of the sports round, including general community news and hard news.
To succeed in this position, you need to work accurately, and quickly under pressure – both independently, and as part of a team – to weekly deadlines.
Responsibilities include compiling and formatting sports results, match report writing, feature writing, and regularly photographing weekend sport.
The successful applicant will be required to do some out-of-hours and weekend work.
Previous newspaper experience will be highly regarded.
A knowledge of Adobe InDesign would also be advantageous.
A current driver’s licence is required.
