The Courthouse Hotel has presented a $670 donation to Legacy which supports families of servicemen and women.
Publican Ray Williams said the contribution followed a successful fund-raising effort on Anzac Day hosted by the hotel.
“We placed a bucket out so that anyone having a few wins could donate to some people in need,” he said.
“It was great to see the community get behind the cause.”
On hand to accept the donation was Dennis Buck from Legacy in Gunnedah.
Mr Buck said the organisation supports about 30 widows in Gunnedah who have been affected by conflicts from WWII to Vietnam.
“There are many more who are widows or children of new conflicts, so we still have ongoing job,” he said.
The recent donation will support Legacy in its ongoing work in the community.
“It will mean there are projects we can do, such as our ‘Winter Warmth’ program which provides assistance with people’s electricity bills, or hampers during Christmas time,” he said.
Legacy was founded in Australia in 1923 as a way to help veterans’ families carry on with their lives after the loss or injury of their loved one.
Legacy supports 40,000 partners and children of veterans Australia-wide.
