St Xavier’s Primary School swimming champions Molly Ramien and Alexis Whitton are preparing for one of their most challenging and exciting swimming competitions yet when they take on the best in Australia at the School Sport Australia Championships at Sydney Olympic Park this weekend.

The girls, who are currently on their Year 6 school excursion, compete over three days against the top three swimmers from each state in a series of events.

Alexis will swim the 12 years girls 50m, 100m and 200m freestyle, 200m individual medley, 100m breaststroke, 100m backstroke and the freestyle and medley 4x50m relays.

It follows her success at the NSW PSSA Swimming Championships in April where she won silver in the 50m and 100m freestyle.

Molly will compete in the 11 years girls 50m and 100m backstroke, 100m freestyle, 200m individual medley and the backstroke leg in the 4x50m medley relay. To qualify, she won gold and the state championship title at the PSSA event in the 50m backstroke.

The girls will meet their NSW squad members today for team photos and an official warm-up session at the Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre. They will also go on a state team excursion to Darling Harbour on Saturday and visit Wildlife Sydney, Madame Tussauds and Sea Life.

The girls have had a stellar swimming season so far this year, after recently winning medals at the NSW short-course Country Championships in Sydney. They have also just returned from racing in Armidale last weekend, where they won a swag of gold medals and broke both area and Gunnedah club records in several events at the New England and North West short-course championships held at Sport UNE. Racing at Nationals for both girls begins on Sunday morning.
