Gunnedah Junior Cricket’s under 13 representative side won its game of the George Denton Shield played at Narrabri last weekend.

Gunnedah won the toss and elected to bowl in the Central North zone fixture.

Bowler Xavier Barlow made early inroads after picking up the scalp of opening batsman Lachlan Baker. Barlow finished with figures of 1-10 from two overs bowled.

Fellow Gunnedah bowlers were equally strong including Harry Langdon (1-8 from three overs), co-captain Marnee Walters (3-10 from three overs) and Tyler Small (2-1 from two overs).

Jai Wilson claimed the crucial wicket of Narrabri batsman Angus Irwin who was blazing his way through the middle-order runs before he was caught in front, lbw, for 17. Wilson finished with solid final figures of 1-3 from two overs bowled.

Gunnedah’s great bowling effort restricted the Narrabri batting effort to just 62 runs.

In reply, Gunnedah co-captain Charlette Keeler top-scored with 10 runs, Ollie Lyle made seven, fellow co-captain Marnee Walters five, and Barlow five also.

Gunnedah reached the run-target in the 22nd over, aided by 34 sundries incurred by the Narrabri bowlers.

Gunnedah is due to face Inverell in the next round of the representative competition.
