The countdown is on for the Gunnedah’s Community Christmas Carols to be held next week.
Hosted by the Gunnedah Ministers Fraternal, the traditional Christmas event will feature all the customary carols sung including O Come all ye Faithful and O Holy Night.
All the community is invited to attend the free event on Friday, December 1 at Wolseley Park. The evening of song will also feature children’s activities including face painting from 6.30-7.30pm.
Food, drink and glow sticks will also be available to purchase on the night. Attendees are asked to bring their own chair or picnic rug.
The family-friendly, alcohol-free event will finish with fireworks at 9pm.
Anglican minister David Piper said the community carols will be led by various school choirs, music groups and ensembles.
“The carols is a great event to be part of and share it with the town,” he said.
Organisers have also upgraded the sound system used for the event, ensuring the carols’ audience will be able to fully appreciate the music on the night.
Last week, Gunnedah Shire Council has endorsed a recommendation to support a financial and in-kind contribution of $1256 for the carols event.
The contribution proposal, which is being exhibited for 28 days at Gunnedah Shire Council, allows the same to be provided for the 2024 and 2025 events. Public submissions for the proposal close 5pm on Wednesday, December 13.
To coincide with the carols event, the Gunnedah Times will publish all the words for carols to be sung. This will appear in next week’s edition of the newspaper (November 30).
