Former Gunnedah local Dane Millerd has secured a spot for his film, Avarice, on 9Now and Stan streaming services.

Avarice is an action thriller where Kate, a champion archer, and her husband spends a vacation with their daughter at a remote holiday home.

One night, a terrifying home invasion by a team of mercenaries forces Kate to use her archery skills to save her family.

It was finally made available to watch for Aussie audiences with 500,000 people tuning in to watch its Channel 9 premier.

The Gunnedah Times previously reported on the film last year in April when it secured a streaming deal with US channel Showtime and Paramount Plus.

Christmas last year came early as Amazon Prime Australia had also picked up the film.

It came off the back of a successful world-wide campaign in which it reached number one on Amazon in Austria, Switzerland and Germany.

“We are over the moon with how Avarice is tracking and happy to be able to offer it to Aussie audiences,” Mr Millerd said.

“There was a lot of hard work from a lot of incredible people between 2018 and now and I’m grateful to be apart of it in some small way.”

He is currently in pre-production for his next feature on Australian female killer, Katherine Knight.

Avarice has received international attention and won Best Thriller at the Montreal Independent Film Festival in Canada last year.

“I’m still in shock but very pleased with how this has performed as I never expected it,” he said.

“All I can put it down to is having better people around me who believe in me and what I’m doing and that’s a big reason why this film worked. I can’t thank director John V. Soto enough for his faith in my story and for following through. He’s an amazing filmmaker and one to watch in the future!

“Avarice’s strong showing has certainly been a bonus and I can’t wait to see how Australian audiences respond.”
