The second year of Gunnedah’s chilliest fundraiser added an extra $25,800 to the fight against motor neurone disease (MND).

Multiple events were held during the earlier winter weeks including the Big Freeze, where those nominated received an ice bucket over the head and the golf charity day, organised by volunteers and namely the Sunnyfield Disability carers group.

Others were involved with their own events this year, as the reality of this disease continued to hit the community hard.

Ewing Real Estate made up $675 of that fund with its bacon and egg roll barbecue and the Bulldogs and Poochettes donned their Fight MND socks to raise awareness.

Merchandise and the golf day auction added further to the funds, which saw the total fundraising almost

double that of last year’s ($13,700).

The end of June had 96 golfers stick up their hand for the charity day at Gunnedah Golf Club.

“It was very unfortunate with the passing storm in the middle of the day,” Sunnyfield Disability Services team leader Tim Richter said.

Despite that, the auction brought in a further $3000 and the team ticked over its aim of $25,000.

“It ended up being quite a good day,” he said.

A total of 36 sponsors from Gunnedah businesses and families contributed to the event.

“A big thank you to those who

donated to the MND fund,” Tim

said.

He mentioned the generosity of not just businesses, but also families flocking to donate, with one giving a generous $1000.

Another thank you went to the Rotary Club of Gunnedah West for providing the barbecue feast along with the volunteers.

Family and friends of those affected by MND made up the bulk of volunteers for the golf day.

“It was great to have everyone there helping out,” he said.
