Michelle Johnston has taken out top claims in the first round of the Gunnedah Women’s Golf Club Championships held last Tuesday.
Winner in Division 1 was Michelle Johnston with 71 from Tammy Sheridan with 75. Johnston was also winner of the Gunnedah Plate, awarded for the best gross score on the first day of the championships, as well as the Mavis Sheehan Memorial trophy.
In Division 2 Coral Lorimer won with a 73 from Lizzie Jones with 75. Judy Lee won Division 3 with 75 and runner up was Sandra Haley with 76. Nearest the pin on 2nd was Michelle Johnston and on 7th Helen Baker. Balls went to the above six place-getters plus Helen Baker, Ros McDonald, Anne Finnigan and Jacinta Stanley.
The second round of the championships was held last Thursday but was abandoned due to the heavy rain. Results were taken from the first nine holes.
Ros McDonald won Division 1 with 36 from Lizzie Jones with 37.5. Division 2 was won by Kerrie Ward with 38 and runner up was Jacinta Stanley with 39.5. Lyn Mitchell won Division 3 with 37.5 from Val Billsborough with 40. Balls went to the above place-getters and Tammy Sheridan, Michelle Johnston, Sally Toppin and Jenny Hughes. Due to the round being abandoned, the championships will be decided over three days and not the usual four.
