Gunnedah Rugby Club recently presented several members of the community with a financial token in recognition of their dedication and achievement in their sporting endeavours.
The assistance will help cover costs for the representatives competing in their chosen sports.
The recipients included:
Tim McDermott – as well as being a first grade second rower and the club’s social media manager, Tim is a volunteer workhorse who is always ready to lend a hand to help the club. On the field, Tim was outstanding at the NSW Country Championships and has made the Country NSW team to play at the State Championships later this year.
Luke Jeffery – one of the Gunnedah club’s fast-paced up and coming junior players. Luke often doubles up on training completing both junior and senior sessions. Luke’s dedication to rugby was rewarded when he was selected in the Junior NSW Country team this year.
Holly Ford – Holly is a Narrabri resident but committed to playing for Gunnedah in the Women’s 10s team this year. Holly’s commitment is shown in the kilometres she travels to training weekly. She is also the highest try scorer in the team. Holly was awarded Best Forward at the NSW Junior Country Championships in the winning Central North team. Holly then went on to play for NSW Country and was again part of the winning team.
Banjo Fitzgerald – Banjo is a member of the club’s junior rugby ranks however his success has been outstanding in the pool. At Nationals, representing NSW, Banjo swam a 1.20.22 in the 100m Butterfly to bring home the bronze medal. He then swam the butterfly again in a relay team placing third as well.
Alexis Whitton – Lexi swam a 27.59 for the 50m freestyle in the heat to be seeded second for the final. A disqualification for a technical error on the blocks, meant that Lexi missed out on a medal in the individual event, but she bounced back to swim in the NSW team freestyle relay, placing third.
Molly Ramien – Molly is a Gunnedah local but attends school in Queensland. Molly swam for QLD at Nationals, placing third in the 12 years girls 100m backstroke and secured another bronze in the medley relay.
