Among the 75 entrants at last weekend’s Gunnedah Showjumping Festival was former Olympian, Ron Easy.
The Quipolly-based rider, who competed at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, is a regular at showjumping events in Gunnedah.
“It’s a good competition … people put in a lot of effort for showjumping weekends like this,” Easy said.
He also builds many of the jumps used on the local circuit and helps train the next generation of showjumping competitors.
He described his international representation as “terrific times” and was equally buoyed by the talented youth emerging in the sport, urging young riders to “be confident to do the jump”.
The veteran showjumper also said the importance of local events like Gunnedah in nurturing the showjumping talent, and potential future Olympians, cannot be understated.
“This is where it all starts,” he said.
