NSW Police are investigating several vehicle thefts in Gunnedah last week. Between 5.30pm on Friday, October 18, and 8am Saturday, October 19, a business premises on the Oxley Highway was broken into and a motor vehicle stolen. Entry to the business is believed to have been through a gate on Borthistle Road. The stolen vehicle was later reported on fire on Wandobah Road between High Street and Bando Street. Police investigations continue and anyone with any information about this offence is asked to contact Gunnedah Police 6742 9099 or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
Between 8pm on Friday, October 18 and 12pm Saturday, October 19, a KTM offroad motorcycle was stolen from an address in Newell Avenue between Hopedale Ave and Pike St. The bike is distinctive and was stolen from the front of the house.
• Meanwhile, a 43-year-old man has been charged with serious domestic violence offences after police were called to an incident involving several persons on Saturday, October 19. Police investigations resulted in a search of the alleged offenders house where a number of items were seized. The alleged offender was arrested and conveyed to Gunnedah Police Station where he was charged with armed with intent to comment indictable offence, possess offensive weapon, use offensive weapon and breach apprehended domestic violence order. He was bailed refused by police and appeared at Tamworth Local Court on Sunday, October 20. He was granted conditional bail to appear at Gunnedah Local Court on November 5. Police investigations are continuing into the involvement of other persons present at the incident.
• Police are also appealing to the Gunnedah community in relation to recent property thefts including break and enter offences and stolen motor vehicles. Police are also concerned about the prevalence prohibited drugs in the community that not only contribute to crime but also to personal violence crimes and the effects they can have on a persons’ mental health. Police are aware of social media commentary by anonymous contributors on these matters and ask those persons to provide information to local police or Crime Stoppers 1800 333 000.
