Several young Gunnedah athletes made an impression at last week’s Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA) state championship at Sydney Olympic Park.
Cohen McDonald and Georgia Grimm competed in the 10 years age group, while others were in the 12 years age group.
Cohen set a personal best (PB) time of 31.83 seconds in the 200m while Georgia was in a junior girls relay team which placed fifth in its heat and 17th out of 40 overall, with a PB of 1:01.51.
Josh Spinks placed fourth in high jump on a count back, as he jumped a height of 1.5 metres.
Ruby Cygan came 14th out of 39 in high jump and 19th out of 37 in long jump, having improved his PB by 5cm in high jump.
Allie Neilsen recorded a PB with her time of 28.65 seconds while placing 20th in the 200m, and she also finished 25th in the 100m.
Cooper Galton placed 22nd in the 800m and 25th in the 1500m, while Paddy Dowe came 31st in the 800m and 34th in the 1500m.
Gunnedah Little Athletics spokesperson Kate Ceeney said it was “such a huge wonderful achievement for country kids to make it all the way to PSSA”, in addition to “the experience, the friendship and opportunity to race against kids state-wide”.
Gunnedah Little Athletics currently has 180 registered athletes, with the club holding events at Donnelly Fields each Saturday morning.
