A total of 144 was insufficient for Gunnedah in last Saturday’s fourth grade cricket contest at Carroll Community Ground, as the North Tamworth Redbacks romped to a seven-wicket triumph.
Gunnedah lost seven wickets while batting out its allotted 40 overs, before North Tamworth raced past the target with 12.4 overs to spare.
After top-scoring with 25 in third grade the previous Saturday, Harry Paul again top-scored while anchoring the innings at the top of the order while this time he made 38.
Having opened with his dad Paddy in the previous two rounds, Paul opened with Toby Blinman who was first to depart.
Noah Kelly scored 26 in a second wicket stand of 54 which took Gunnedah to 1-75, but the innings fell away as the score tumbled to 6-108.
An innings of 31 not out from Darrin Cameron gave the total some respectability, while North Tamworth rued conceding 25 runs in wides and no-balls.
The Redbacks were in the box seat in any case, as their openers put on a century partnership.
Three quick wickets including a run out threw a small scare into North Tamworth’s line-up as the score went from 0-100 to 3-105, but there were no further hiccups.
North Tamworth Redbacks 3-150 (Maxwell Daly 59, Angus Davidson 38; Noah Kelly 1-26, Jack Canham 1-35) defeated Gunnedah 7-144 (Harry Paul 38, Darrin Cameron 31 not out; Steven Newman 2-11, Angus McManus 2-38) by seven wickets.
