Gunnedah was no match for Maitland in under 17 representative cricket at Kitchener Park last Sunday, as the visiting team raced to a nine-wicket win in the Col Dent Shield fixture.
The hosts mustered 135 runs before being bowled out in 32.2 overs, and then the visitors required just 24.5 overs to reach the target.
Gunnedah’s situation would have been a whole lot worse without Keaton Walters, who made 82 while none of his teammates passed 12.
After arriving at the fall of the first wicket, Walters was the second-last wicket to fall when he chanced his arm and was bowled.
Walters recorded nine fours and three sixes in his 87-ball innings.
Will Hicks’s only two scoring strokes were sixes, while Gabriel O’Connor’s sole scoring stroke was also a hit over the boundary.
Maitland lost its only wicket in the 15th over with the total at 75, before Chayce Smith made 45 not out from 33 balls in the unbroken 61-run second wicket partnership.
Maitland 1-136 (Chayce Smith 45 not out; Noah Kelly 1-20) defeated Gunnedah 135 (Keaton Walters 82; Thomas Long 3-8, Owen Staines 2-16) by nine wickets.
