Three Gunnedah junior representative touch football teams took part in a non-competitive gala day in Scone last Sunday.

Gunnedah’s U10 and U12 boys teams and U14 girls team took part as it was the third year in a row that the Gunnedah Touch Association sent its junior representative teams to this event.

Teams from Scone, Tamworth, Barraba, Singleton, Muswellbrook and Mudgee also took part in last Sunday’s event.

Gunnedah touch football administrator and coach Will Dowe said Scone Touch Association organised a great day for junior representative teams to play against each other as preparation for tournaments such as Junior State Cup.

While Gunnedah’s boys teams had a couple of wins last Sunday, Dowe said, “More importantly, they had the chance to bond as a team and demonstrate to their coaches areas of strength and areas in need of further development to work on at training.

“Our junior rep teams continue to be in a state of development.

“Our coaches are relatively new and this is only our third year of sending teams away to tournaments.”

Dowe said the club’s junior development program envisaged big things for Gunnedah’s junior players as the club learned more about what makes good touch players and how to foster this from a young age.

“Each year we have found that the junior rep players have a lot of fun and really enjoy being part of a Gunnedah representative team,” he said.

“Even though we are not winning tournaments yet, we are hopeful that this will come as our junior comp grows and we continue to draw families into the club.”
