Gunnedah teenage cricketer Keaton Walters had a productive weekend at Port Macquarie as he debuted for Central Northern in the Bradman Cup representative arena.

Keaton made two solid contributions with the bat, while Central Northern recorded two victories and one defeat.

Central Northern finished the weekend in third place out of 10 teams, behind Newcastle and the undefeated Greater Illawarra.

Keaton’s dad Ken presented him with his baggy cap, before lining up for the opening clash with Newcastle at Wayne Richards Park.

After Newcastle posted 6-89 in its 20 overs, Keaton batted at number five after two run-outs left Central Northern shakily placed at 3-31.

Keaton hit three fours in his 29 off 31 balls, and his dismissal made the score 4-82 in the 18th over before Central Northern achieved a six-wicket victory just five balls later.

At the same venue later that day, Keaton arrived at the crease with the total at 3-87 in the 17th over against Central Coast.

After settling in with three singles from his first five deliveries, Keaton hammered a four and two sixes as he scored 19 runs from five balls in the 19th over before finishing with 27 not out from 13 balls in the total of 3-128.

Central Coast won by seven wickets, with one over to spare.

At Oxley Oval the following day, Keaton scored six while batting at number six as Central Northern suffered a mid-innings slump before finishing with 170 in 46.5 overs.

Keaton later held a catch as North Coastal was all out for 116.

The Bradman Cup will continue early in the New Year, with fixtures in the Albury-Wodonga region.
