Gunnedah Red Devils Second XV compiled an impressive victory over Barraba/Gwydir at the weekend, playing away at Barraba, winning 33 to 22.
Five tries to two, and the ability to convert those five pointers, saw the Red Devils secure victory.
Outside centre Jaia Richardson-Fowell registered an impressive 14 point haul for the Devils,
consisting of two tries and four conversions in an impressive performance.
Tries were also scored by winger Lochie Lancaster along with Ash Harris and Josh Dowse as both made an impact off the bench for the Devils.
The 11-point victory has the
Red Devils Second XV joint second place on the ladder – with rivals
Tamworth Pirates – despite being a game behind the rest of the competition.
An important stepping stone heading further into the season, the Red Devils Second XV were littered with First XV talent due to the Firsts second consecutive bye in the First Grade competition.
The strength of the club remains in the talent nipping at the heels of the First XV, meaning a healthy intensity from the second XV and camaraderie emanates through the club.
Exemplified by the fact the Devils were able to name nine bench players on top of the starting XV for the second grade fixture.
Upcoming for the club is a trip to Scone where all three grades
will take on the Brumbies, meaning all sides have felt each other out for the opening round of the competition.
The Devils sit in atop of the First Grade competition, whilst the second XV are second and the Women’s 10s side an impressive third after the first stanza of their respective competitions.
