Gunnedah’s Sally Keeler and her daughter Mackenzie (15) have been selected in the NSW Women’s Indigenous Team for the upcoming National Championships in Alice Springs, from February 22- 28.
This is the eighth year the women’s and men’s championships have been held with the NSW team enjoying great success.
The pair will fly out from Tamworth next Tuesday and will join other team members in Sydney for the flight to the Red Centre.
An experienced cricketer Sally Keeler said, “it is so special to do this with my daughter”.
Sally started playing when she was 15 and paused when she left Gunnedah at the age of 22 but took it up again two years ago, while Mackenzie has been honing her skills since she was in Year 3, when Eddie McGuirk persuaded her to play in the school team.
The mother and daughter will return home on Wednesday, March 1, after what is expected to be an exciting week of cricket.
The team’s head coach is Kerry Marshall assisted by Hannah Trethewey.
