Central North Junior Rugby Union’s under 11 representative team starred at the NSW State Gala Weekend recently, winning the G.R. Paton ‘Spirit of Rugby’ Shield.
“This is a huge effort and fantastic achievement as the gala weekend is built around this shield for the zone that performs best on and off the field,” coach Hamish Russell said.
Central North fielded 36 players and entered two teams at the gala event held at Tuggerah where they competed against zone representative teams from across the state.
The Central North side performed admirably at the event winning more than half of its games.
“The highlight for many was cheering on prop forward George during his steaming 49-metre sprint down the sideline with ball in hand, much to the crowd’s delight,” the coach said.
