A group of Gunnedah South Public School students met tennis identity Todd Woodbridge on Monday while competing in the tennis tournament named after the man himself.
The Gunnedah youngsters opposed students from a range of schools across the state in the finals of the Todd Woodbridge Cup, played at the Sydney Olympic Tennis World Park.
With the contestants playing five rounds of doubles, Gunnedah South Public School had two wins, two losses and a draw in pool B and placed 13th out of 18 teams.
The Gunnedah school reached the finals after competing against local teams and then playing at regional level against teams from Narrabri and Tamworth.
Gunnedah South Public School teacher Kristie Hudson said, “It was a lot of fun and for many of the kids it was their first experience representing the school in a sporting activity.”
Kristie said the youngsters had very high energy levels and were excited to be there, and spent as much time as they could on the courts – even during the lunch break.
One of the students asked Todd Woodbridge about Tipping Point, and this brought a response to “always go for drop zone 1 and 4”.
The occasion was also memorable for Gunnedah’s Adalie Muddle, as the children shared a cake to celebrate her birthday.
