Gunnedah Shire Council has decided to delay further public consultation on the showground and riverine precinct draft master plans.
In a motion moved by deputy mayor Kate McGrath and seconded by councillor Rob Hooke, council will instead seek further input from “relevant stakeholders” involved in both projects before presenting a report to its March 2025 ordinary meeting.
“The showground needs a heck lot more work,” Cr Hooke told fellow councillors at the December meeting.
“It is the home of the show society, they have no where else to go, no way of expanding.
“It needs a lot more work with the stakeholders that are there.
“I commend the motion put forward by councillor McGrath.
“It gives the stakeholders an opportunity to dig deep into this and come out with adequate resolution that satisfy both parties well into the future.”
One of the main concerns in the showground master plan was the lack of available vehicle parking.
The showground and riverine plan postponements come as Gunnedah shire community considers revised master plans for the Wolseley and Kitchener parks.
Both draft plans were released for further community feedback after initial rounds of consultation last year.
All master plans are design concepts only proposed by council and not yet funded. The plans will enable council to pursue grant funding for their construction.
Public submissions for the Wolseley and Kitchener concept designs close on February 3.
