An Old Boys team sprinkled with Gunnedah talent enjoyed a 42-run victory against a City United team featuring one former Gunnedah-based cricketer, in last Saturday’s Tamworth District Cricket Association (TDCA) first grade fixture at Kitchener Park.

This came one week after the Tamworth-based Old Boys trounced Gunnedah by nine wickets at the same venue in T20 cricket.

On both occasions the Old Boys team included former Gunnedah-based players Adam McGuirk, Hayden Baker, Mitchell Swain and Rhyce Kliendienst.

Former Gunnedah-based player Ben Middlebrook played for Old Boys on January 11 but not January 18, while former Gunnedah-based player Eddie McGuirk played on the latter occasion but not the former occasion.

Baker scored 21, and Mitchell Swain made eight while Adam McGuirk made six in a total of 8-203 in 40 overs last Saturday, while Eddie McGuirk and Kliendienst didn’t bat.

Kliendienst took 1-39 while Baker captured 1-44 as they delivered eight overs each, with Baker holding a catch off his own bowling.

Baker also ran out former Gunnedah-based player Aidan King without scoring, after Adam McGuirk had held two catches.

Despite the result, City United remained second on the points table while Old Boys stayed in third place, with Gunnedah last.
