The Gunnedah March ‘Weeks of Speed’ Festival is back, promising more excitement for motorsport enthusiasts and local families in 2025.

Last year, Gunnedah Motoring Enthusiasts (GME) hosted part of the MG Car Club National Meeting, featuring Motorkhana and Sprint events which injected thousands of tourism dollars into the region.

This year, GME is shifting its focus to giving locals a chance to participate in grassroots motorsport, offering a fun and affordable opportunity for drivers of all ages and skill levels.

The Motorkhana will take place at the Gunnedah Showgrounds on Sunday, March 2.

This non-speed event challenges drivers to navigate a series of obstacles marked by witches’ hats, testing their skills and enhancing driver education.

Thanks to the support of local businesses, new entrants can compete for just $25. This fee includes an introductory licence, event entry, and GME annual membership – fantastic value for newcomers.

Other events include the ‘Meet the Speed’ on Saturday, March 22.

GME will also participate in this new initiative from the Gunnedah Chamber of Commerce at Club Gunnedah. This event will showcase participants from the Weeks of Speed Festival, featuring panel discussions and interactive displays.

Meet the Speed will provide opportunities for people to learn more about motorsport and connect with others in the community.

A special attraction for the Meet the Speed evening is Xtreme GTR, brought to Gunnedah by team owners Michele and Mark Guyer.

Recently voted People’s Choice at Sydney Motorsport Park, this stunning car has broken multiple records at World Time Attack, Wakefield Park, and Wanneroo Raceway.

Xtreme GTR is widely regarded as the fastest and most recognised Time Attack GTR in the world.

Gunnedah’s speed events will also take to the skies.

On Sunday, March 23 the Gunnedah Aerodrome will host GME’s Half-Mile (804m) Single Vehicle Sprints, along with the debut of the ‘Flying 500 event’ — a rolling start at 40 kmh over 500 metres. This promises to be a thrilling experience for participants and spectators alike.
