Gunnedah’s Country Women’s Association members saw great success at the Group Handicraft and Land Cookery Day at Curlewis.

Several first prizes were won by branch members and juniors were well represented too (results below).

All first-place recipients will now make an entry for the State Land Cookery which will be held in Wagga Wagga next month.

The handicraft was also on display in the group competition. The Gunnedah members placed first out of 10 branches. Jo-Ann Little has two items moving onto the state level which scored 90 points each.

Four members travelled to Baan Baa for the group council meeting last week which involved finalising the state conference trip and other agenda items.

Heather George has been welcomed as the newest member at the Gunnedah CWA.

In other news, branch member Coralie Howe presented educational grants to two Gunnedah High School students last week, Stephanie Faint and Toby Eddington. The school said the monetary scholarship will support them in obtaining essential resources for their studies.

Elaine Kennedy came first in the fruit cake and second in steamed pudding sections. Marlena Bladwell was first in the chocolate cake and remembrance biscuits sections. Mikaela Elsley did well with two second places in the chocolate cake and gluten free magic bean cake sections. Christine Pease came in first for her apricot roll, second for her sultana cake and third for the magic bean cake section. Pina Guerrini came second in the coffee sponge and coconut loaf sections. Coralie Howe was third in the coffee sponge section while Leonie Harley came second in the plain butter cake and Jenny Randell was second in the peppermint slice. First place in the tomato jam section was Heather George and second was Elaine Kennedy. Leonie Harley won a second place with her strawberry jam.

The junior members also did well. Gabba Pease’s chocolate butter cake was first in the under-18-years section. Lucy Hausfeld came third in the packet cake in the under-12-years section while William and Jack Laws were second and third in the decorated patty cake section in the under-8-years.

Marlena Bladwell came first in the chocolate cake section.
