The Gunnedah High School girls tennis team claimed the North West title after a term of impressive performances against schools across the region.

Charlette Keeler, Chelsea Budden, Erin Mitchell, Katie Mitchell and Scarlett Berryman played a series of competitive singles and doubles matches throughout the term, building strong momentum heading into the grand final against Macintyre High School on Tuesday, June 17.

The decider was on home turf, and the girls came out firing as they established an early 2-0 lead after strong wins in the opening doubles matches.

The singles were tightly contested, with both schools winning two sets which enabled Gunnedah to move ahead 4-2.

With the pressure on, the GHS girls headed into the reverse doubles knowing they had to hold their nerve.

After two hard-fought games and countless rallies, Gunnedah sealed a 5-3 win.

The GHS team showed great sportsmanship and positivity across all games, and also helped coach some of the girls who had never played before.

The girls advanced to the Combined High Schools (CHS) competition next term, with the venue to be confirmed.

Congratulations to Charlette, Chelsea, Erin, Katie and Scarlett on an outstanding season, and to Miss Ruttley for her support and coaching.
