Ben Murray from Winanga-Li Aboriginal Child and Family Centre has been endorsed as the latest member of the Gunnedah Youth Working Group.

The Gunnedah Shire Council-led working group now includes a total of 20 members.

The term of the position is two years and more members were expected to be added as further nominations are received in coming months.

Coordinators hope the working group will serve as a foundation to the reformation of a ‘youth council’ in Gunnedah at a later stage.

Pool decision deferred

For the second time in as many months, Gunnedah Shire Council has agreed to defer its decision on funding agreements for the Gunnedah Memorial Aquatic Complex.

Last month elected representatives were due to determine whether to approve two funding agreements for Swimming Gunnedah and the Gunnedah Triathlon Club. But councillors postponed the decision at the last minute as council received last minute legal correspondence on the matter.

When the matter was heard at the council’s July meeting last week, councillors were told a deferment was necessary as a report was still pending on alternative options for the operation of the pool complex.

Councillors were told this report was expected to available at the September 2025 ordinary meeting.
