There has been much consternation regarding the Gunnedah pool – from user agreements to the water temperature. But if Gunnedah folk thought their situation was bad, they might want to spare a thought for the Moree community which has been battling its own pool drama for almost 15 years.

The Moree council has been attempting to fix its leaky 50m pool for years – since 2012 in fact – and despite extensive remediation works, the problem persists, as mayor Susannah Pearse explained recently.
“We have water seeping out from beneath the site,” she said. “We don’t know where that water is coming from. The additional challenge we have is the hot artesian pools were built in the shell of the original 50m pool. To identify where these leaks are coming is incredibly challenging.”
The problem has forced council to completely relocate the pool to another site entirely.
I guess it’s all a matter of perspective – a little cold water here and there, and having to share the pool with a few extra sports groups or users doesn’t seem like such a big thing in comparison, does it?
