The Gunnedah/Tamworth Pups had two teams competing in the AFL North West NSW junior grand finals last Sunday, with both teams going down to the Inverell/Glen Innes Saints at Cameron Park/Bert Lowrey Oval.
Gunnedah/Tamworth’s U12s came desperately close, as extra time was required after the score was deadlocked at the end of regulation time.
The Pups led 2.1.13 to 1.3.9 at half-time, before the teams were level on 4.5.29 apiece at full-time.
In extra time, the Pups managed one goal while their opponents landed one goal and three behinds to secure a 5.8.38 to 5.5.35 triumph.
In the U14s, the hosts were simply too strong as they led 5.7.37 to 1.1.7 at half-time and went on to win 14.9.93 to 3.5.23, despite the best efforts from the Pups.
The Pups had several individual award winners, with Jack Wright earning the Rising Star and Best-and-fairest awards in the U12s while Jasper Lendon was the Best-and-fairest runner-up.
Also in the U12s, Zac Tunbridge was the highest goal scorer.
In the U14s, Josh Spinks was the highest goal scorer and runner-up for Best-and-fairest.
