The Gunnedah Bulldogs concluded their AFL North West NSW season with an eight-goal loss to the Tamworth Kangaroos at Wolseley Park last Saturday.
Gunnedah finished the season with just one victory, while finishing last in the five-team competition after finishing third in a four-team competition last year and bowing out in week one of the finals.
The hosts began well last Saturday and held a handy lead at quarter-time, before the match gradually slipped away from them.
Bulldogs player-coach Jakob Vearing landed the first two goals to help his side to a 2.1.13 to 0 lead, before the Kangaroos opened their account.
Gunnedah led 5.5.35 to 3.3.21 at the first break, but managed only one goal and one behind in the second term while the Tamworth team moved to an eight-point lead.
While the hosts again kicked only 1.1.7 in the third term, the visitors kicked 3.4.22 to set up a 23-point lead with one quarter remaining.
The Kangaroos were much stronger in the final term, as they kicked 6.2.38 to 2.1.13 to run out 16.14.110 to 9.8.62 victors.
Vearing and Tamworth’s Callum Jackson booted six majors each.
