Jamie Chaffey has been honoured with the Emeritus Mayor Service Award in recognition of his eight years as Gunnedah’s mayor.

The Local Government NSW award acknowledges the service of retired councillors that served as mayor.

Award recipients need at least five years of experience in the role.

Mr Chaffey accepted the award presented by current mayor Colleen Fuller at last week’s citizenship ceremony at The Civic.

She thanked him for his hard work and dedication to the Gunnedah shire along with Local Government NSW.

Mr Chaffey described his mayoral service from 2016 to 2024 as an “absolute privilege”.

“What I learned during those eight years serving this community I think has put me in a good position coming into this role as a federal member,” he said.

“Still with a lot to learn in this capacity but those eight years I made some absolutely amazing relationships within local government.”

He stated his gratitude through acknowledging not all mayors receive such an award.
