More than 100 competitors from across the country including some of Australia’s fastest racers hit the runway at the Gunnedah Airport for No Prep Drag Racing on the weekend of September 13 and 14.
The ‘Gunfight at Gunnedah’ event generated plenty of adrenaline and speed thrills in front of big crowds, with some cars reaching speeds of more than 200 kmh.
No Prep Racing Australia (NPRA) owner, promoter and race master John Habib said the crowd record was broken for Gunnedah Airport Motorsport events while there was overwhelmingly positive feedback and response from fans and racers.
With purpose-built no prep cars which began as production vehicles, Mr Habib said there was “amazing close racing” and “great people from the local area supporting”.
Categories were Big Tyre, Small Tyre, Street Car Gangsters, 7.5 Index, Dial Your Own, and Pro Street Bike.
There was an accident on the first day when one car had to be written off after rolling over, but fortunately the driver escaped serious injury.
Away from the runway there was plenty of extracurricular activity including a car show and a jumping castle, while numerous food vendors were kept busy.
Mr Habib offered thanks to Bill and Jen Ausling from the Tamworth Drag Racing Association for their contributions.
