Gunnedah’s senior cricketers are gearing up for another season in the Tamworth and district competition, after Gunnedah made its first appearance in the competition last season.
Gunnedah is again set to field a team in each of first, second, third and fourth grades, with the format and opponents looking similar to last season.
As of Tuesday, the draw was not yet released although the first and second grade season is likely to start on October 11.
Again there is expected to be a mix of T20, one-day and two-day fixtures while Gunnedah’s opponents are North Tamworth, South Tamworth, Bective East, City United, and Old Boys.
Gunnedah was unable to reach the finals in each grade last season, although there were plenty of competitive showings while a number of youthful players produced eye-catching form.
Continuing president of the Gunnedah Cricket Club and experienced local cricketer Sam Doubleday said “last season was definitely something to build on for this season”.
“The feedback I received last year was quite positive about the change (after Gunnedah previously had its own local competition), and people are excited for the challenge again this season,” he said.
“I invite anyone and everyone over the age of 12 to register, giving opportunities for parents to play lower grades with their kids, male and female.”
Sam Doubleday is looking forward to the upcoming cricket season, with Gunnedah again set to field four teams in the Tamworth and district competition.
