Spotlight: School holi-yay!
School holidays are continuing and while the week may be short, there are still plenty of activities to keep young hands busy.
The library will be closed on Monday, October 6 due to the public holiday, and there will be no Crafty Creations on Monday at the Curlewis Hall. Crafty Creations will continue at 3.30pm on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday at the Gunnedah Library with 3D dog art, CD spinners, and dioramas. Remember to book on (02) 6740 2190. The cost for each session is $3. Come in early and enter this holiday’s Seek & Find.
Spotlight: Self Help collection
World Mental Health Day is October 10, making this the perfect time to prioritise your mental health and evaluate which habits are helpful, and those that need to be given the heave-ho!
The collection contains books on ditching harmful habits, overcoming trauma and building resilience, coping with difficult relationships, and learning to love yourself.
Spotlight: New books
A fresh batch of new junior books has landed on the shelves, just in time for the holidays.

Strongest, Cleverest, Deadliest… (EASY 500) by Lan Cook is a lift-the-flap book, just perfect for young readers thirsty for knowledge. Find out which animal has the biggest brain, where the hottest (and the coldest) places on Earth are, what machine makes the loudest noise, and what is included in the smelliest stink bomb ever made!
If you love unicorns, don’t miss Learning to Fly (JF PUN) by Ana Punset. Claudia has just moved to Unicornia, the most magical place ever! Enlisted at the Unicornia Academy of Magic, she will soon take the unicorn flying test. Can she and her friends learn to ride in record time? Full of friendship, magic, and glitter galore.
Football and racing fans will love our new quick-read biographies. With plenty of illustrations, as well as key life events, they are a bite-sized look at your favourite sportspeople. Look for Lionel Messi (YANF 796) by Emma Carlson Berne, Zidane (YANF 796) by Matt and Tom Oldfield, as well as Fernando Alonso and Oscar Piastri (YANF 796) by Maurice Hamilton.
We said goodbye to Brittany Riley last week, who has penned Library Links for the past two years. She is setting out on a new adventure, and we wish her all the best!
I can’t help but end my first Library Links with one of my favourite quotes by Groucho Marx: “Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog, it’s too dark to read.”
