Spotlight: New books

If you have a little one who loves to say ‘No’, why not borrow Mr Fox’s Game of “No!” (EASY L) by David LaRochelle. Mr Fox has a challenge: answer every question in the book with “no”. If you say “yes”, you must start again. What questions will he ask? Lots of giggles!

The inspiring life story of Ruth Hegarty is available to read in her award-winning memoir, Is That You, Ruthie? (BIOG 994 HEG). Growing up in the notorious Cherbourg Aboriginal Mission during the Depression years, Ruthie reflects on her experiences living in the dormitory and the lasting bonds that developed between all the girls who were removed from country.

A little light reading is on offer, with Love and Other Hollywood Endings (AFR ERW) by Susannah Erwin. Sutton Spencer was an upbeat screenwriting student. Xavier Duval was her genius-but-grumpy filmmaker mentor. They shared a secret kiss, then he savaged her screenplay and ghosted her completely. Fast-forward ten years, and Sutton is now a movie executive vying for a VP position. She is sent to oversee Xavier’s new sci-fi blockbuster which has gone way over budget. He is still as talented and gruff as she remembers, but this time, she is in charge.
