Hair today, gone on Sunday! Can Assist Gunnedah is inviting the community to a Brave The Shave Family Fun Day at Club Gunnedah to raise money for local cancer patients.

Can Assist aims to ease the burden of cancer affected country people. This may be through assisting in expenses, providing practical support or raising awareness of inequalities faced by country patients.

There will be good old fashioned family fun including face painting, temporary hair colour spray, games, guess the number of lollies in the jar, sausage sizzle and the main event, the anticipated shaves.

Three brave family members will be losing their locks with the aim of raising $5000.

Jayde Bain with partner Brendan King and their son Cameran will receive a big chop, motivated by their own story to give back.

After Brendan received support from Can Assist during his cancer journey, the family wanted to help ensure that others in the community could also access the care and assistance they need.

“One thing I can say about Gunnedah is when times are tough, everyone stands together,” Jayde said. “This is a great opportunity to come down and put a couple of dollars in the hat, show unity and all stand together.

“You could help a family have a Christmas they never thought they were going to have, whether it was going to be their last Christmas or not together.”

She said Can Assist Gunnedah helped her family with bills which meant in the long run they were able to give their children a good Christmas.

“Even a couple of dollars could buy a child something,” she said.

Can Assist Gunnedah president Kate Knight said the charity was incredibly grateful to the family for giving back.

“By bravely shaving their heads, Jayde, Brendan, and their son Cameran are raising both awareness and vital funds that will stay right here in our region, supporting local cancer patients and their families,” she said.

“This fundraiser is a true example of community spirit – giving back so that others can receive a helping hand when they need it most.

“Can Assist Gunnedah is committed to ensuring that all people have access to cancer treatment and care, by providing financial assistance and practical support to those in our local community.”
