Three Gunnedah Triathlon Club members are taking on the world’s best at this year’s World Triathlon Championships in Wollongong from Thursday to Sunday.
Representing Gunnedah are Sarah Stewart in the 35-39 year age group, Kelly Watson in the 40-44 year age group, and Donna Hickey in the 65-69 year age group.
The trio will compete in the sprint distance event featuring a 750m swim, 20km cycle and 5km run.
Coach John Hickey said the trio has shown strong commitment throughout the preparation.
“The girls have worked really hard and are in great shape – that’s all you can ask for leading into a world championship,” he said.
More than 6700 athletes from around the world are expected to compete in Wollongong, making it one of the largest triathlon events ever held in regional NSW.
