Spotlight: New books

Mark 250 years of Jane Austen with The Austen Affair (AF BEL) by Madeline Bell. Big-hearted and bubbly Tess Bright has scored her dream role in a film adaptation of Northanger Abbey. Her co-star, Hugh Balfour, is a serious, BAFTA-nominated, method actor. When an electrical accident on set sends the feuding pair back in time to Jane Austen’s era, they must ad-lib their way through the Regency period and back home.

In Very Impressive for Your Age (AF KIR) by Eleanor Kirk, we meet 26-year-old Evelyn. Evelyn is well on her way to becoming an international opera star until she loses her voice mid-performance. Forced to put her dreams on pause and wait out her recovery, she takes a job at her old high school (no experience needed). A story about chasing your dreams – and re-aligning your life when your dreams fall short.

Emma on Fire (AFT PAT) by James Patterson and Emily Raymond is available to borrow. Emma Blake is in trouble. Her school blames a heartbreaking family tragedy, her friends point to her social media, and her father says it’s a drastic cry for help. But she doesn’t want help. She wants to make a difference, and she will walk through fire to change the world.
