For the first time in about a decade, markets are returning to Breeza on Saturday and it’s all in the name of a good cause.
The Breeza Progress Association Charity Day will feature market stalls and community bingo to help raise funds for men’s mental health.
Rick and Jo Rose are spearheading the event, motivated by a desire to see more assistance for men in the local area.
“We’re just trying get awareness for men’s mental health here in town because there’s no one here that really does it,” Rick said. “There’s no refuge for men here, there is for women. And we just think men need to know that there’s someone there for them.
“We just want to get something out there to help the men in town who have got nothing.”
The family know the pain of mental health all too well and have friends in the area who have died by suicide.
Jo said the money raised will stay in the local area and if the market day helps just one person “it’s well worth the cause”.
Bingo – which is regularly held monthly in Breeza – will follow the markets and everyone is invited to attend.
Rick said the progress association has delivered more than $250,000 in improvements for Breeza village in the last 10 years.
That includes maintenance machinery and contract mowing which is completed on behalf of the local council.
Rick said the association has also helped install fences at the park and cemetery, new tennis courts, barbecue area seating, playground swings and the newly refurbished mural depicting bushranger, Ben Hall.
The market day at Breeza will also feature food and coffee and plenty of good times.
“Come down, spend a dollar, stay for bingo, and support the town, the district and good mental health,” Jo said.
