It was not just an average Scout meeting for members of 1st Gunnedah Scout Group with a visit from the NSW Governor.

Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, is also the Chief Scout of NSW and visited the Group as part of her regional tour in Gunnedah, Narrabri and Tamworth last week.

Members of 1st Narrabri West Scout Group also attended the meeting, which was an emergency services night with activities by the State Emergency Service and Rural Fire Service.

1st Gunnedah Scout Zoe Wise said it was special having the Governor visit.

“The Governor helped us do some first aid and we got to see the SES’s tools,” she said.

“We also took a special photo with the Governor, and she also sprayed us with water from the RFS truck’s hose, which was really funny.”

The two Scout Groups were also presented with the “Governor’s Coin” as mementos of the visit.

“We have our very own Governor’s Coin which we give to honour the people who we meet,” Her Excellency said.

“Tonight’s been a lot of fun, but also hopefully you will remember that the Governor came to see you, to see your very special Groups, and because I’m your Chief Scout, to me it’s been an honour to meet you all.

“You have engaged in everything so fantastically, you’re obviously going to be not only great Scouts, but great citizens and great leaders.”
