Gunnedah tennis prodigy Lachlan Finnerty had a taste of State of Origin in Albury-Wodonga last weekend, as he represented NSW in the Super 10s State of Origin tennis event.

The participants played on natural grass for the first time, as well as the usual hard court and synthetic grass.

Each participant played two singles matches (best of two sets), two doubles matches (pro set, first to eight games) and a mixed doubles shootout (tiebreak first to seven).

NSW finished second to a strong Victorian team which had some of the nation’s top U10 players, including the national champion and runner-up.

In any case it was a fantastic experience for Lachlan, who knew a few of the NSW U10 players after he had trained with them at Sydney Olympic Park throughout the year.

Lachlan has also been selected to attend a national tennis camp at the Australian Open from January 28 to February 1.

The top 32 U10 boys and girls from around the nation are selected for this prestigious camp, where they travel solo with Tennis Australia and have the chance to eat, sleep and train where the professionals do.
